Mr. Sunil Verma, multi-crore National Rural Health Mission fraud, as was mentioned in the CBI case, together with the former Uttar Pradesh Minister Babu Singh Kushwaha, allegedly committed suicide today in his home by shooting himself with his licensed revolver.
The police here said 52-year-old Sunil Verma shot himself at his Vikas Nagar residence about 08.30. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Verma was named in the first FIR caught in scam related to upgradation of 134 hospitals across Uttar Pradesh for a sum of Rs 13.4 crores for Construction & Design Services, a unit of the UP Jal Nigam. Kushwaha also figured in the FIR.
CBI had done the job was given to a Ghaziabad-based business on the basis of false and forged documents, and construction was of poor quality, causing a loss of Rs 5.46 crore to the Exchequer.
Verma, who was the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Project Manager with Building and Design Services, was named in the FIR and the searches were conducted at his home on 4 January this year, says CBI sources, adding that he was neither questioned in the case nor was he asked to appear for questioning.
He had been in depression for CBI searches at his home, said family sources.
This is the fourth mysterious death linked to fraud. Two senior doctors (CMO) has been murdered, and a Deputy CMO was found dead in a prison hospital.
The Allahabad Court had directed CBI to investigate misuse of the NRHM funds for these killings.
